Beating the Odds Conference 2024
In partnership with the Secondary Store, a black-owned Vintage Clothing Curation business, the Laurier Black Student Association collaborated to create a stylish take-home item for Conference participants to keep from this year's 19th Annual Beating the Odds (BTO) Conference.

Beating the Odds Conference 2023
The Beating the Odds Conference is one that has been held annually at Laurier by the Association of Black Students since its creation in 2005. It is an event that is tasked with educating local Black youth in the KW region on post-secondary education options, and equating them with Black professionals in various fields. This is all with the intention of showing youth what they can aspire to, and encourage them to pursue post-secondary education with the intention of achieving similar feats to the professionals they met at the conference. The conference also contains Q&A-styled workshops where the students can have a one-on-one conversation with said professionals and network with them while inquiring about their career path.
Black History Month 2023
For Black History Month in 2023, the Black Student Association at Laurier engaged in 6 spotlight-based campaigns in collaboration with local partners from the Laurier community and the wider Kitchener-Waterloo + Greater Toronto Areas to:
Recognize current Black-led organizations with Spotlight Sunday;
Highlight Scholarship Opportunities available particularly to Black Students with Money Talk Monday;
Educate about Health & Wellness resources geared towards the Black Community with Wellness Wednesday;
Amplify the voices of Black Creators with the Creator's Corner;
Recognize prominent Black Figures in various industries from the past with Flashback Friday;
Highlight Black-Owned Small Businesses with Small Business Saturday.
